Nyctosaurus is a small pterosaur that lived in the mid-western United States during the Late Cretaceous period. Nyctosaurus has a extraordinary large antler-like cranial crest on its head which was the show off other Nyctosaurus and impress the females.

  • Nyctosaurus is a member of the family Nyctosauridae, a group of pterosaurs that were specialized for soaring long distances. Nyctosaurs were unique for the fact that their wings lacked the first, second, and third fingers entirely, leaving only the fourth finger that supports the wing. All other pterosaurs retain these fingers, as they important for supporting their weight when walking on land. The loss of these fingers strongly indicates that Nyctosaurs spent almost their entire lives in the sky, only ever landing to breed or sleep.
